If you're anything like the clients I work with—juggling all the things while building a business that actually works for you—you know how much your space affects your energy.
Feng Shui (pronounced "fung shway") is an ancient Chinese practice centered around creating balance and flow in our surroundings. And while it may sound a little “woo,” at its core, it’s really just about setting up your space to support how you want to feel: focused, creative, calm, and in control.
You don’t need to do a full office overhaul. A few simple shifts can help your workspace feel more grounded—and yes, even more profitable.
Here are some small, impactful changes to try:
🪑 Sit in the “Power Position”
If you can, place your desk where you can see the door—but not directly in front of it. This gives you a clearer view of what’s coming (literally and figuratively) and helps you feel more in control of your space.
If you share a workspace, avoid lining desks up directly with doors or facing each other. Instead, aim for side-by-side placement—it feels less intense and more collaborative.
🧱 Solid Support Behind You
A solid wall behind your chair gives a sense of stability and security—something every business owner needs more of. If that’s not possible, go for a sturdy chair with a supportive back. Even that small physical support can help you feel more confident and grounded during your workday.
🚪 Clear the Path (Literally)
Make sure your walkways and spaces between furniture are clear. Clutter in Feng Shui = stuck energy. And let’s be honest—it’s hard to think clearly when your workspace is crowded or chaotic.
Use shelves, bins, or whatever works for you to keep your space tidy. You don’t have to be a minimalist. Just create room for your energy (and your ideas) to move freely.
☀️ Let the Light In
Natural light is a game-changer. Try to set up your desk near a window, ideally with the light coming in from the side. It’s easier on your eyes and can boost your mood and energy levels throughout the day.
If you work at night or in a windowless space, go for warm, soft lighting. Bright doesn’t have to mean harsh.
🌱 Decorate Your “Wealth Corner”
In Feng Shui, the back left corner of your office (as you walk in) represents prosperity. Try adding a plant, something purple, or a small water element like a fountain or an image of flowing water.
No pressure to go crystal shopping—but if amethyst happens to make you smile, it wouldn’t hurt to place one here.
🌸 Use Scent to Set the Mood
A diffuser with citrus essential oils can help you stay focused and energized. If you prefer a grounded feel—like in a more serious or quiet space—woodsy scents can add calm and clarity.
Pick what feels good to you—this is your space, after all.
Final Thoughts: Build a Space That Works With You
You don’t have to believe in energy flow or ancient philosophies to know that your environment matters. Whether you’re balancing the books, coaching clients, or crafting your next big idea, your office should feel like a space that supports you.
So take what resonates, leave what doesn’t, and give yourself permission to create a space that feels good to be in. You deserve that.
